Hutchings Pianos

Hutchings Pianos was established by Reg and Pat Hutchings in 1955. As Reg was a musician and piano teacher, the business was originally called Reg Hutchings Piano Studio, but soon expanded into selling reconditioned, secondhand pianos from Europe, Australia and the US. Later Hutchings Pianos began to sell new pianos from England, China, Japan, Korea and Russia.

Hutchings Pianos was one of the first in Australia to offer pianos for rent, which proved to be a very popular option for many. At times there have been as many as 500 piano rented across Sydney.

Over the past 50 years, Hutchings Pianos has built strong relationships with Sydney's music and entertainment community and is a regular sponsor of many charitable events and the performing arts.

The shop has become a landmark, known for its distinctive wall mural with a keyboard and portraits of some of the 20th Century's finest pianists.

Reg passed away in 2000 and Pat in 2006. The business is now owned by three of the second generation Hutchings family, Wendy Hutchings (General Manager- pictured left), Rodney Hutchings and Amanda Hutchings.

Wendy Hutchings formerly spent 20 years in the field of early childhood as a Teacher and Director of child care centres and preschools and eventually a Childrens' Services Manager. Always passionate about education, Wendy opened a music school at the rear of Hutchings Pianos in February 2006 called Pringle Place Musik for Juniors. More than 30 classes a week are held for 150 families with young children, teaching with fun and love, the fundamentals of music.

Wendy and now her daughter, Jody, along with a dedicated sales team ensure that Hutchings Pianos continues into a third generation. It is highly regarded as one of the most enduring and well known piano dealers in Australia.
